Triggers are a nightmare, let’s be honest. Nobody likes them, and pretty much everyone has to deal with them.
It’s a bit of a buzzword “trigger”, and it’s often weaponised in the spiritual community and used against people.
“You’re just triggered”
Fucking hate when people say that. It really triggers me 😂
The best way to deal with triggers that I’ve found is to treat them like little pointers that show you where to bring your awareness. If someone says or does something that really pisses you off - if you don’t react outwards right away, you can follow that emotional trail backwards into yourself and find out which part of you needs a little tlc.
Perhaps this is difficult, and at first it just leads back to larger “blanket” emotions like anger or shame, but give it a little time and thought without reacting outward and see what bubbles up - you’d be amazed at what decides to come and greet you.
Another way to look at it is by seeing life as a cycle of cause and effect. Maybe someone is just being a prized twat, and you being triggered is not down to the fact you need to “do the work”. In that case, understand that they’re not acting in a harmful way for no reason, or because they’re inherently horrible. There has been causation to their effect, and you can bring compassion to that cycle by non-reactiveness and a little love.
Overall you’ve got to find what works for you but as somebody who traditionally had quite a short fuse - these helped me a lot.

“Apophenia” is a tendency to perceive connections between unrelated things. Most of us struggle with this to some degree, but I found this way of thinking actively encouraged in the New Age. I’m still untangling myself from it.
Whilst life is magical and the divine exists in all of us - we do have to be careful when balancing out how extreme we take this concept. There is a balance in life that we must adhere to if we are to be healthy. Excessive magical thinking - like believing everything is a sure sign from spirit, or that every conspiracy is real - easily opens up the door to paranoia, and in very extreme cases - psychosis.
The thing with apophenia is that it’s difficult to turn it on for one thing and off for another. When I was told that everything was a possibility and that there were no boundaries, I also removed many of my own personal boundaries and gave up a lot of the psychological structures that made me feel safe. I would also take very mundane things as sure signs from spirit, whilst also becoming increasingly paranoid that people meant things much more personally than they actually did.
Although the traditional cultures many of us are inspired by may seem on the surface to believe anything is possible, and see the world as more alive than the average westerner - in my experience their spiritual views actually have a lot of structure and definition around what is real and what isn’t.
As we develop our own spiritual culture, I really think it would help us to be more cynical around magical thinking in order to assist us in feeling grounded and less prone to mental health issues, which naturally arise when we give illusion too much real estate in our minds.
If you are suffering from lots of anxiety on your spiritual path, like I did. Moving away from excessive magical thinking may do you the world of good.

Although shamanism is my first love, I’ve been really getting into two practices recently that I’m also training in - Breathwork and Yoga Nidra.
Someone asked a question yesterday about shamanism for nervous system regulation. I have to be really careful with my nervous system. I’m highly prone to anxiety, and I also found it really difficult to stay balanced whilst doing healings 4/5 times a week, and then holding larger ceremonies too - my nervous system was often left completely shattered.
Whilst shamanism can definitely regulate your nervous system - it wouldn’t be top of my list to do so. In the same way that going into surgery is healing but not relaxing - there are other practices designed around nervous system regulation that work much better for this.
We should only really be calling on spirit as a last resort. If we can do healing work without bothering huge energies then that is much better.
Calling on spirit for every single issue is a little bit egoic, and also brings unnecessary repercussions in order to repay the debt of healing that is incurred each time spirit makes it possible.
Breathwork and Yoga Nidra have transformed how I feel on a day to day basis - which in turn assists me in the more hardcore practice of Shamanism. I see it like having the correct spiritual nutrition in order to build my shamanic endurance.
They’re also a lot more accessible in our modern lives - having a ten minute break to regulate your breathing or a 30 min Yoga Nidra session on your lunch at work (equivalent to a 2-4 hour nap!) can completely transform issues like anxiety in the workplace - which is a big problem.
The big ceremonies and rituals are always available, but should be used sparingly. Taking more responsibility with our day to day healing and doing everything we can before we knock on spirits door is a really good thing in my opinion.

Sometimes you have to take a step backwards so you can move forwards, and I definitely felt like I had hit a rut before summer. I’d been doing the same thing each week for years and it just wasn’t fulfilling me much anymore. I felt I had reached the limits of what I was capable of with the knowledge that I had, and that I needed to make a lot of changes in my life in order to become the healer, author - but more importantly - the man that I wanted to be.
It was a real call to adventure. A call to healing and growth and a stepping into a fuller responsibility. This is as painful as it is exciting to be honest. Identity clings to us with both hands, and never lets go without a fight.
I’ve got a real thirst for knowledge again and I’ve been studying pretty intensely for the last few months - which is an amazing feeling that I haven’t had for several years.
I’ve also been spending a lot of time mentoring people in my work, which I absolutely love, and it’s amazing to work with people in a way that doesn’t always include intense ritual - which is always there if it’s appropriate, but often it isn’t needed. It’s a really good way to work through psychological issues, especially for people who are just dipping their toes and exploring spirituality/shamanism. It’s something I really want to do more of.
There isn’t a point to this post lol. Just checking in and saying hi. I haven’t been posting much recently as I’m doing the very adult thing of getting proper branding done and I’m waiting until it’s complete before I start being a loud mouth on social media again.
Also am loving the Sunday question/answers. I really find it fun to interact with everyone, and the anonymity makes it dark and mysterious 😂
